Nakhchivan city 

is the capital of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. The territory is 191,57 km2  with 92.1 thousand population (01.01.2017). The distance from Nakhchivan to Baki  constitutes 536 km. It is one of the oldest cities of Azerbaijan.

The  big industrial, scientific and cultural center is situated on the junction of  an IMPORTANThttp://cdncache-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.pngrailway and automobile transport lines. There is an International Airport.

The city of Nakhchivan is located in the plain of Nakhchivan on the bank of the Nakhchivanchai river. The climate is continental. The average temperature is – 3,8 0C in January, 26,9 0C in July and annual precipitation is 236 mm.

There is 1 military lyceum  named after Heydar Aliyev, 3 High Schools, 3 secondary professional schools, 19  secondary  schools, the Nakhchivan branch of ANAS, Nakhchivan State Musical Drama Theatre named after J.Mammadguluzadeh, the Puppet Theatre, the Children’s Theatre, The Philarmonic, The Picture Gallery, The Olympic Sport Complex named after Ilham Aliyev, the swimming center, the sport complex and stadium of “Dynamo” association, the Chess Center, 7 extracurricular  and 9 preschool educational institutions, 8 libraries, 4 club centers, 10 museums, 6 musical schools, Nakhchivan Tourism Information Center, the center of Nakhchivan studies, 3 cultural and rest-time parks, “Ganjlik” Center, the Diagnostics Treatment Center, Maternity Center, 14 hospitals, State organs and other service infrastructures in Nakhchivan.

        Sharur region

It was established as a region on August 08, 1930, and was named as Ilich region during 1964-1991. It borders on Armenia to the north-east and Iran to the south-west. The territory is 872.26 km2 with the population  more than 114.6 thousand (01.01.2017). Its center is the city of Sharur. There are 65 villages in the region.

The territory of the region consists of mountains and sloping plains. It has a dry cold  semi-desert dry steppe  climate  in summer and a cold dry climate in winter.

The Aras, the Arpachai rivers flow through the territory of the region. Arpachai water reservoir is located in the region. It is mainly an agricultural region.

There are 60 secondary schools, 1 lyceum of profession, 6 extracurricular schools, 2 professional institutions, 60 libraries, 67 club centers, 1 museum, the Arpachai History – Cultural reservation, 6 children’s musical schools, “Bahar” cinema, 1 central hospital, 8 regional hospitals, 20 out- patient’s clinics, 9 medical  midwife  stations, 27 medical attendant stations, the Center of Hygiene and Epidemiology and other organizations in the region.

 

         Babak region 

It was established  as a region on October 23, 1978 by national leader Heydar Aliyev’s decision. It borders on Armenia to the north-west and Iran to the south. The territory is 828.42 km2  with  74.3 thousand population  (01.01.2016). Its center is Babak settlement. There are 35 villages in the region. The territory of the region consists of the Zangazur, Daralayaz mountain range hills, the plains of Nakhchivan and Gulustan. The highest peakhttp://cdncache-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png of the region is  Buzgov  (2475 m). It has dry cold semi-desert, dry steppe type of  climate   in summer, while dry cold type of climate prevails  in winter.

The region is rich in mineral waters. Sirab and Vaykhir mineral water springs are popular all over the world. The Araz, the Nakhchivanchai and other rivers flow through the territory. There are Uzunoba, Nehram, Sirab, Jahri, Gahab water reservoirs and irrigation canals in the region. It is mainly an agricultural region.

There are 38  secondary schools, 6 extracurricular  school institutions, 1 preschool educational institution, 41 libraries, 32 club centers, 2 museums, 5 children’s  musical schools, 1 central hospital, 1 maternity house, 2 regional hospitals, 16 out patients’ clinics, 14 medical midwife stations, 4 medical attendant  stations, the center of Hygiene and Epidemiology and other organizations in the region.

 

Ordubad region  

– It was established  as a region on August 8, 1930. In 1963 the region was abolished and added to the territory of Julfa region and  it was reestablished on January 6, 1965.

It borders on Iran to the south, but on Armenia .to the north and east. The territory is 978.99 km2, with about  49.5 thousand  population (01.01.2017). Its center is the city of Ordubad. There are 3 settlements and 43 villages in the region.

The territory of the region consists of the Zangazur mountain range and the Aras river plains. The highest peak is the Gapijig (3904 m). The climate type is dry in summer and cold in winter. The  Aras, the Ordubad, the Vanand and other rivers  flow through the territory of the region. It is mainly an agricultural region.

39 secondary schools, 1 professional school, 5 extracurricular schools and 2 pre-school institutions, 47 libraries, 42 club centers, 3 museums, the popular “Gamigaya” historical monuments complex, the National park named after Hasan Aliyev, the Ordubad Historical-Agricultural reservation, 2 children’s  musical schools, the “Aras” cinema, 1 central hospital, 4 regional hospitals, 7 out patient’s clinics, 17 obstetrician  stations, 14 medical attendant stations, the Center of Hygiene and Epidemiology and other organizations serve the people in the region.

 

         Julfa region  

– It was established as a region on August 8, 1930. It borders on Armenia to the north-east, but Iran to the south. The territory is 926.3 km2with 46.1 thousand population (01.01.2017). Its center is the city of Julfa. There are 22 villages in the region.

The territory of the region consists of Zangazur mountain chain, the Aras river and Julfa plains. The highest peak is the Damirlidagh (3364 m). The Daridagh, the Nahajir and other mineral waters bubble up here. The climate type is dry hot in summer, but cold in winter. The Araz, the Alinja and other rivers flow through the territory. The Bananiyar reservoir is located in the region. It is mainly an agricultural region. The vine-growing and animal husbandry developed in the region.      

The popular “Ashabi-Cave’’ sanctuary, religious cultural monuments complex, the “Khanagah” monuments complex and the “Gulustan” history-cultural reservation are located in Julfa region.

         Kangarli region 

- It was established as a region on March 19, 2004. It borders on Iran to the south and south-west, but Armenia  to the north and north-east . The territory is 704.89 km2 with 31.8 thousand population. (01.0.2017). The center is Givrag settlement. There are 10 villages in the region.

The territory of the region consists of the Daralayaz mountain range and the Kangarli plain. The highest peak is  Kechaltapa (2744 m). A continental climate type exists in the region.

The Lizbirt and the Jahri rivers flow through the territory of the region. It is mainly an agricultural region. There are 12 secondary schools, 4 extracurricular school educational institutions, 12 libraries, 13 club centers, 1 museum, 2 children’s musical schools, 1 central hospital, 1 regional  hospital, 4 out patient’s clinics, 5 midwife  stations, the Center of Hygiene and Epidemiology and other organizations.

  

         Shahbuz region

- It was established as a region on August 8, 1930. On January 4, 1969 it was abolished and joined  Nakhchivan (present-day Babak region) region and  it was reestablished on January 6, 1965. It borders on Armenia to the north and east. The territory covers  836.58 km2  with 24.9 thousand population (01.01.2017). The center is the city of Shahbuz. There is one settlement and 22 villages in the region.

The most part of the area of the region is situated on the slopes of the Zangazur and Daralayaz mountain chains. The highest peakhttp://cdncache-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png is  Salvarti (3160 m) mountain. It has a cold climate type and summer is dry here. 

The Nakhchivanchai and its branches (Kuku, Shahbuz, Salvarti) flow through the territory of the region. There are  Ganligol and  Batabat lakes in the region. It is mainly an agricultural region.

         Sadarak region 

It was established as a region on August 28, 1990. It borders on Turkey to the south-west and Armenia to the north-west. The territory is 163.74 km2 with 15.8 thousand people (01.01.2017). Its center is  Heydarabad settlement. There are 3 villages in the region.

The territory of the region consists of mountains and plains. There are the Dahna and the Validagh highlands.

The Araz, the Garachay and the Chapan rivers flow through the region. It is mainly an agricultural region. There are 3 secondary schools, 4 extracurricular school and 1 preschool educational institution, 5 libraries, 4 club centers, 1 museum, 1 children’s  musical school, 1 central hospital, 1 out patient’s clinic, 1 medical attendant and midwife  station, the Center of Hygiene and Epidemiology
